Я народилася за 1500 км від місця, де знаходжуся зараз. Російське вторгнення змусило мене перекочувати зі східного кордону України до західного.

Донецьк-Ужгород-Одеса-Ужице-Бенешов-Одеса-Ужгород — маршрут останніх 8 років. Маршрут пошуку втраченого дому, безпеки та спокою. Ужгород — моє місто-охоронець, місто-прихисток, що оберігає кожен раз, коли ракети, снаряди й військові машини насуваються на мене. Тривога, яка завжди є моєю супутницею, яка супроводжує не тільки всередині, а й просякає усе, що я пишу й створюю, дивовижно контрастує зі спокоєм та неквапливістю Закарпаття. Печатка краю териконів, шахт та злиденного степу, яку я ношу на собі з народження, згладжується величчю гірських хребтів та лісів, що відгороджують мене від минулого. І я нарешті відчуваю себе вдома у цьому краї, що приховує містичні пам'ятки давніх сторіч.

Серед істориків досі немає єдиної думки щодо дати заснування Середнянського замку. Деякі спеціалісти вважають, що споруду звели у XII сторіччі, інші дотримуються версії, що у XV сторіччі. Проте достеменно відомо, що на місці замку існували стоянки людей ще за часів неоліту.

Рівнинну місцевість не так просто знайти серед Карпатських гір, але цей старовинний замок знаходиться якраз посеред долини, що оточена лише невеликими пагорбами — це чи не єдиний замок Закарпаття, розташований не на височині. Під землею тут ховаються винні гроти та лабіринти ходів, що за легендами з’єднують Ужгород та Мукачево. За однією з теорій цей замок був крайнім форпостом на «соляному шляху» хрестоновців-тамплієрів з Закарпаття до Європи.

Середнянський замок не був резиденцією, а виконував оборонну функцію. Крізь часи він постійно змінював володарів, а австро-турецькі та австро-угорські війни нещадно його руйнували. Сьогодні ми можемо побачити тут лише голе каміння залишків величних товстих стін у романському стилі.

I was born 1,500 km from where I am now. The Russian invasion forced me to move from the Eastern border of Ukraine to the Western one.

Donetsk–Uzhhorod–Odesa–Užice–Benešov–Odesa–Uzhhorod — this is my route of the last 8 years. The route of finding a lost home, safety and peace. Uzhhorod is my guardian city, a sheltering city that protects me every time rockets, shells and military vehicles come towards me. Anxiety, which is always my companion, which lives inside me and permeates everything I write and create, wonderfully contrasts with the peace and leisure of Transcarpathia. The landscape of Terricon spoil tips, mines and the miserable steppe, which I carry within me from birth, is smoothed by the majesty of the mountain ranges and forests that fence me off from the past. And I finally feel at home in this land that hides the mystical monuments of ancient centuries.

There is still no consensus among historians on the date of the foundation of the Serednianskyi Castle. Some experts believe that the building was erected in the 12th century, while others stick to the belief that it was built in the 15th century. Nevertheless, it is known for certain that there have been human settlements on the site of the castle since Neolithic times.

Plain terrain is not so easy to find among the Carpathian Mountains, but this ancient castle is located right in the middle of a valley surrounded only by small hills — it is quite possibly the only castle in Transcarpathia that is not located on a hill. Legend has it that the place hides underground wine grottoes and labyrinths of passages connecting Uzhhorod and Mukachevo. According to one of the theories, this castle was an extreme outpost on the Knights Templar’s ‘salt road’ from Transcarpathia to Europe.

The Serednianskyi Castle was not a residence but served a defensive function. It constantly changed owners over the years, finally being mercilessly destroyed during the Austro-Turkish and Austro-Hungarian wars. All that is left to see here today are the bare stone ruins of the majestic and thick Romanesque walls.

This site of historical battles is located in the middle of what is today the route from Uzhhorod to Mukachevo. You can get here by suburban bus. On the highway, near the bus stop, you are met by a road sign with the emblem of the village — the Lamb of God with a flag. A little further on is an abandoned gas station, and behind it on the hills is an old cemetery with stone crosses. To get to the castle, you have to go around the cemetery. The castle is hidden among private houses; goats graze in the meadow in front of it. The castle around which battles were once fought and empires were born and fell now stands in ruins. But even now, at this stage of slow decline and in the strange vicinity of castle ruins and pastoral landscapes, one feels something majestic and life-affirming. In the harsh silence of the ruins, the peaceful sounds of village life are heard.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Мене звуть Ксенія Янус. З 2014 року беру участь як музикантка та авторка текстів у різних музичних проєктах. Моя основна діяльність – це створення експериментальної музики та саунд-арту, центральними темами яких є відчуженість, внутрішня міграція та рефлексії щодо досвіду дитинства в індустріальному регіоні – Донецьку.

У сфері культури працюю з 2016 року. Починала як випускова редакторка розділу рецензій та комунікаційниця у медіа про сучасну українську музику Neformat.com.ua, з 2020 року працюю грант-менеджеркою. Також пишу рецензії на нові українські релізи, оглядові та аналітичні статті, інтерв'ю.

У 2014 році через російське вторгнення я і мій чоловік Вадим були змушені покинути рідний Донецьк.

Переїхавши до Ужгорода, ми зняли квартиру і прихистили двох наших друзів, які також виїхали з Донецька. Оскільки всі ми були музикантами, натхненними темною сценою, у жовтні 2014 року, живучи разом, ми вирішили створити DIY пост-панк-проєкт. Так народився гурт Dahau Holidays.

У 2015 році разом з друзями з Ужгорода та Рівного ми вирішили організувати власний лейбл - Nava Records.
Згодом на Nava Records було випущено дев’ять альбомів у форматі CD та на касетах.

У 2016 році я і Вадим переїхали до Одеси та продовжили займатися музикою в інших проєктах: «Климентово Поле» та «Орфос».

Після початку повномасштабної війни ми повернулися в Ужгород. Зараз я зосереджена на нашому основному проєкті – Dahau Holidays. Тепер Dahau Holidays – це дует: я та Вадим. Наш перший альбом народився під впливом війни 2014 року, а нинішні військові дії також спонукали нас почати писати новий альбом. Разом з іншими музикантами переселенцями створюємо аудіовізуальне шоу “Стереоміф”.

My name is Kseniia Yanus. Since 2014, I have been participating as a musician and author of texts in various musical projects. My main activity is the creation of experimental music and sound art, the central themes of which are alienation, internal migration and reflections on the experience of childhood in the industrial region - Donetsk.

I have been working in the culture sector since 2016. I started as a publishing editor of the reviews section and a communicator in the media about modern Ukrainian music Neformat.com.ua, and in 2020 I started working as a grant manager. Furthermore, I write reviews of new Ukrainian releases, review and analytical articles, interviews.

In 2014, due to the Russian invasion, my husband Vadym and I were forced to leave our native Donetsk.

After moving to Uzhhorod, we rented an apartment and sheltered two of our friends who also left Donetsk. Since we were all musicians inspired by the dark scene, in October 2014, while living together, we decided to create a DIY post-punk project. This is how the band Dahau Holidays was born.

In 2015, together with friends from Uzhhorod and Rivne, we decided to organize our own label - Nava Records.
Nine albums were subsequently released on CD and cassette on Nava Records.

In 2016, Vadym and I moved to Odesa and continued to do music in other projects: "Klimentovo Pole" and "Orfos".

After the start of a full-scale war, we returned to Uzhhorod. Now I am focused on our main project - Dahau Holidays. Now, Dahau Holidays is a duo: me and Vadym. Our first album was born under the influence of the 2014 war, and the current hostilities also prompted us to start writing a new album. Also, together with other refugee musicians, we are creating an audiovisual show "Stereomyth".
