Autumn Excursion

In 2022, for the first time in my life, I saw summer Odesa almost without tourists. The war changed my sound perception of the urban space: everywhere now reigns an alarming silence, and the usually uncomfortable noises of traffic jams, crowds and audio garbage have become a melancholy memory. As part of the September Excursion, we will visit several locations that have become my personal markers of Ukrainian identity in this multicultural city.

Program:

1. The cemetery of Sotnykivska Sich is a Cossack cemetery on the outskirts of the city, founded in the middle of the 18th century, even before Odesa got its current name.

Travel by the 20th "reed" tram, which often appears in films shot in Odesa.

~ Ascent by Marinesko descent (the name has not yet been decommunized).

2. A wall with graffiti on the building of the Odesa Fine Arts Museum (OFAM), from which my friends and I helped evacuate pieces of art at the beginning of the war.

3. The house at 52 Pastera Street, where we spent the first months of the war. Also, in 1917-18, Ukranian People’s Republic activists Ivan and Yurii Lypa lived there.

4. The star of the half-forgotten poet and writer Borys Necherda on the Alley of Stars (yes, almost like in Los Angeles) near the Opera House.

У 2022-му році я вперше в житті побачив літню Одесу майже без туристів. Війна змінила моє звукосприйняття міського простору: усюди тепер панує тривожна тиша, а зазвичай дискомфортні шуми заторів, юрби та аудіо-сміття стали меланхолійним спогадом. У рамках Вересневої Екскурсії ми відвідаємо декілька локацій, які стали моїми особистими маркерами української ідентичності в цьому мультикультурному місті.

Програма:

1. Цвинтар Сотниківської Січі - козацький цвинтар на виїзді з міста, заснований в середині XVIII ст., ще до того як Одеса отримала свою теперішню назву.

~ Проїзд до центру міста 20-м “комишевим” трамваєм, що часто фігурує в фільмах знятих в Одесі.
~ Підйом узвозом Маринеска (назва ще не декомунізована).

2. Стіна з графіті на будівлі Одеського Художнього Музею, з якого ми з друзями допомагали евакуювати роботи на початку війни.

3. Будинок на вулиці Пастера 52, де ми провели перші місяці війни. Також у ньому в 1917-18 рр. жили діячі УНР Іван і Юрій Липа.

4. Зірка напівзабутого поета і письменника Бориса Нечерди на Алеї зірок (так, майже як в Лос-Анджелесі) біля Оперного театру.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Мене звати Віктор Константінов, я — музикант-самоук з Одеси. Свої перші пісні почав записувати і викладати в інтернет десь у 2013-му році. Polje — мій основний псевдонім, під яким я публікую свою музику та виступаю в форматі електронного dawless-лайву або як діджей з 2017-го року. В травні цього року на лейблі Система вийшов мій дебютний лонг-плей “Kombinezon”. Моїм робочим середовищем є домашня студія в Одесі; в роботі я використовую грувбокс, семплер, синтезатори, гітару, кларнет, вокал, філд-рекординги та програмне забезпечення Ableton. Також, у вересні 2022 року я запустив лейбл звукозапису “Liky Pid Nohamy”.

My name is Viktor Konstantinov, I am a self-taught musician from Odesa, Ukraine. I started recording and posting my first songs on the Internet somewhere around 2013. Polje is my main alias, under which I release music and perform in the format of DAW-less live set, and also as a DJ since 2017. In May of this year, my debut LP "Kombinezon'' was released on the label Systema. My working environment is a home studio in Odesa; in my work, I use groovebox, sampler, synthesizers, guitar, clarinet, vocals, field recordings and Ableton software. Also, in September 2022, I launched a record label “Liky Pid Nohamy”.
